Maritime Awareness Week Planning Committee

In October, SAJ’s Communications team provided planning and execution support for one of the most active celebrations of Maritime Awareness Week in recent years. The SAJ also sponsored the inaugural hosting of the Women in Maritime industry dinner held during the weeklong celebration:

  • Industry Church Service – The Industry was graciously hosted by the Fellowship Tabernacle (Church) on Sunday September 20, 2015 to start Maritime Awareness Week.
  • Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) School Exposition – The SAJ represented members at this annual event on Monday and Tuesday. Items donated by member companies were displayed and SAJ team members explained the valuable work and interest of the shipping community to the participants at this event.
  • Caribbean Maritime Institute (CMI) Inaugural Conference – This international conference was theme ‘Mile Logistics -The Promise and Possibilities for the Caribbean’. The papers presented at the Conference will be published in a book entitled The Future of Transportation and Global Logistics Corridors.
  • World Maritime Day Balloon Release – On Thursday September 24, 2015 The SAJ, CMI and the Maritime Authority of Jamaica celebrates the life and work of over 800 Jamaican seafarers by releasing one thousand balloons at Kingston’s scenic waterfront. It was a ne display that was covered by the media. It is expected that this will be an annual affair.
  • Women in Maritime Caribbean (WiMac) Shipping Industry Dinner – The Women in Maritime Caribbean put on a fund raising industry dinner. It was very well attended by members of the industry and the general business community.
