The Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) regrets to inform members of the death of Janice Budd, the Association’s head of communication. Miss Budd died on Tuesday, January 2, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. Her substantive post at the SAJ for the last three years (3) was operations manager, communications and member services.

Janice served the media for over 20 years in various capacities. She is perhaps best known nationally as a news anchor at the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation, CVM TV and RJR Group. In 2010, she transitioned to print journalism coordinating the editorial content of the Jamaica Observer’s Sunday newspaper.

She moved on to corporate communications at the National Commercial Bank before joining the SAJ.

Group CEO at the SAJ, Trevor Riley said, “Our association and the country have lost someone who made a real mark on several sectors — media, banking, shipping. We have lost a gifted colleague.’’

Property and Administration Operations Manager at the SAJ, Dionne Gordon recalled Budd’s strength and kindness.

‘’I was truly amazed at how Janice, even in her sick state, was always thinking of us (SAJ staff) and was always telling us how she missed us and couldn’t wait to come back to work. Janice, you are one in a million and I will miss our conversations and your infectious laugh….Walk good my friend.’’

The Shipping Association of Jamaica wishes to express its condolences to her family and friends, colleagues and well-wishers. Her legacy, encompassing her stellar journalism career and inherent kindness, will undoubtedly live on.
